In 95% of cases, we use the Bintje potato variety. This variety was created in the early 20th century in Friesland (Netherlands) and is distinctive for its fine yellow flesh and excellent processing performance. It lends itself perfectly to the various product applications in our plants.
Additionally, we use the Agria potato variety for organic French fries, specialities and flakes and the Russet Burbank and Astérix varieties for making fast-food fries.
Early potato varieties such as Première, Fresco and Anosta help us cope with potato requirements during the period from 15 July until the Bintje harvest, around 15 - 20 September.
Every year, we test new varieties that might be suitable for new applications. Trials of new varieties study the consumer's reaction to taste, cooking performance, colour and agronomic performance (growth performance, susceptibility to mildew and viruses, performance during prolonged storage and, of course, return for the farmer).
